CanopyTranslate's self-service medical translations make it feel like you have hundreds of translators on your staff.

By combining machine translations, crowdsourcing edits from medical professionals from around the world, and centralizing content management practices, we are able to vastly improve the availability, speed of production, and cost-effectiveness of multilingual medical documents and health promotion.

Step 1: Analyze document and look for matches

Medical professional who needs a translated document checks whether an uploaded document has a matching translation already available in the Document Library. If there is no match or close match, proceed with the remaining steps.

Step 2: Run machine translation

Canopy produces a machine-translated version 1.0 of the requested materials at about 80% accuracy using Google Translate API services (example: of a diabetes brochure in French).

Step 3: Medical Professionals from around the world fine-tune

Canopy converts version 2.0 into a set of exercises to be completed by doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals enrolled in CanopyLearn medical English courses who edit and perfect the machine-generated translations to ensure 100% accuracy.

Step 4: Synthesize translation (highest-agreement output)

CanopyTranslate analyzes the responses from all translation contributors and generates the best possible translation based on agreement across versions

Step 5: Update Document Library

Drawing from the final translation, CanopyTranslate stores the final translated document and associated metadata into the self-service Document Library.

1 in 12 individuals in the U.S. have limited English proficiency (LEP) and can’t access essential healthcare information in a language they understand.

While hospitals may provide translations of key forms for high-frequency languages, virtually all other medical documents, including educational brochures, fillable forms, and discharge instructions, are published exclusively in English.
