What is Learning Mode? What is Clinical Mode?

CanopySpeak is a multilingual Clinical Communication Support Tool that features a Learning Mode for mastering frequently used phrases and a Clinical Mode to support routine communication.

The CanopySpeak iOS app takes a 2-in-1 approach that empowers providers to deliver language-concordant care. Both Learning Mode and Clinical Mode are built from a corpus of 5,000 frequently used medical phrases gathered and translated by a team of linguists, clinicians, and professional medical translators, with support from an NIH small business innovation award.

Learning Mode helps clinical and non-clinical staff advance towards becoming fluent in speaking phrases they frequently use in the language(s) they need the most. Users master phrases through a sequence of short learning activities: Pre-Assessment, Flashcards, Multiple Choice Questions, Countdown (Build the Phrase in 30 Seconds), and Speaking Practice (including an AI-driven patient conversation simulator).

Clinical Mode features a clinical phrasebook that helps providers practice and apply what they’ve learned to provide more compassionate, trusted care directly to patients. Users can play back phrases for patients in real time. Where applicable, the app offers patient-response support in the form of tappable yes/no answers and pain scales.

To toggle between Learning Mode and Clinical Mode, click the hamburger menu (three lines) in the top right corner of the app home screen.
